Refitting The Planet is a truly unique lifestyle show focusing on sustainable design and spaces. In this weekly show, we follow the work and relationships of the zany, multi-talented and eminently watchable artist/designer Rodney Allen Trice (named as a Time Magazine’s Green Design 100).
In each season, Refitting The Planet will be based in a different city, selected as the site for a Trice sustainable house project. As we witness the house under construction, we’re engaged with a cast of provocative, dynamic and occasionally mettlesome people (artists, craftspeople, construction crew and assorted other characters) whom Trice assembles to work on the project. As Trice and his team meld, we go along for the ride navigating language barriers, culture shock, and the search for the local treasures & other essentials required for the build.
Trials, tensions and full-on failures are followed by the ultimate success of the completed house that’s packed with Trice’s signature furniture and lighting designs. Refitting The Planet is an entirely new approach to lifestyle entertainment that fuses ingenuity, behind-thescenes drama and easy instructional DIY projects made from recycled objects.
Each episode focuses on the measureable progress as the house goes up, along with tons of refitted (upcycled) lighting and furniture pieces Trice and the team create for each room. Basel House, in Miami, will be the first season’s project. The build is coordinated in conjunction with Art Basel, one of the biggest arts festivals in the world. Basel House will be built from retired aircraft.
